IRCommand2 - Reported Issues
Driver Issues with Windows 11
- Win MCE Dongle driver no longer works in Win11 — The driver will work for a short period time then hang. Our assessment is that this is an issue within Win11 that we are currently unable to work around. We should note that Microsoft has officially dropped support for the MCE IR interface. The interface is still present in Win11, but is no longer working. We suggest submitting a trouble report to Microsoft if this is an issue for you.
Windows protected your PC:
The Smartscreen function of Windows Defender may pop up this message when you attempt to run the installer for our program. This will occur despite the fact that the program and its installer are signed with a valid WDPS LLC certificate.
- The simplest solution is to click More info and then click Run Anyway. However, we have found that this sometimes still fails to run the installer. In that case try the next option...
- Navigate to the download location of the installer file, right-click on the file and select Properties. At the bottom of the Properties page click Unblock and then OK. You can then double-click the installer file to run it.
Known Issues For the Current Release:
- Web Server Error #5 — After installing a new program version a Web Server Error 5 occurs upon starting the program. To fix this, shut down the program, re-run the install, and choose the Repair option.
- Repeated Signals — After installing a new
program version command signals are being sent multiple times - for example,
sending "1" registers as "111" on the device. This can happen with some
trained IR signals if you're updating from an older version of the
program. To fix, set Send Repeat Factor Default to zero
(0) under Device Properties for the affected device (in
Learn Mode right-click on the device tab, select Device
Properties, then select the Advanced tab to
find the property). Whenever you add a new
device to your configuration start with a Repeat Factor of 0 and
increase it only if that doesn't work reliably.
Driver Issues with Windows 8 and Windows 10:
- Windows 8/8.1 Driver Issues — Windows 8/8.1 will by default automatically install a driver for all devices it recognizes. For some dongles (e.g., the X10 CM19A) this can result in the wrong driver being installed causing it to no longer work with IRCommand2. Automatic driver installation can be disabled in Windows 8/8.1 to avoid this problem. Follow the simple directions found here to do it. Then, manually install the correct driver for the dongle.
- Windows 10 Driver Update Issues — As with Windows 8, Windows 10 Update will automatically update drivers for known devices. This is an issue for some dongles, such as the X10 dongles and the Firefly, that require a custom driver from our webiste to work with IRCommand2 (see Download page for info). Follow the detailed directions found here for Windows 10 to disable all driver updates. Alternatively, the fix described here can be used to stop driver updates only for affected dongle drivers while continuing to allow all other drivers to be updated.
- Windows 10 Driver Install
Issues — Most drivers provided on our downloads page work under Windows 10,
but it may refuse to install a driver with the
message "The hash for the file is not present in the specified
catalog file. The file is likely corrupt or the victim of tampering".
In this case driver signing enforcement must
be disabled in order to get an option to install the driver
anyway during the install process. Follow directions for "Option 2"
(Option 1 doesn't work) found
here and then install the driver again.
Update (2/21/17): The X10, Firefly, and IguanaWorks drivers have been updated and should now install on Windows 10 without disabling driver signing enforcement. If you are still experiencing a problem with the new drivers please let us know. You can use the Report form, below, or send us an email. Thanks. - IguanaWorks Dongle Won't Initialize -- You must uninstall the IguanaWorks software in order to use the dongle with IRCommand2.
